I watched Angel’s Egg at Scotland Loves Anime last weekend, an obsure arthouse anime from the mid eigthies and somehow the cinema was so packed that the queue went outside. Had seen it multiple times before over the years but after watching a YT-video about it afterwards it seems to make sense now, which is kinda weird.

Sadly I suspect my two won’t sit through a full game yet, can’t get them to sit for ten minutes and watch it at home!

But a babysitter has maybe materialised, so here’s hoping

Ill be honest the post-mortem was fun especially after we found out she messaged wife’s sister to contradictory everything she argued

Tbh looks like for whatever reason the inlaw was just looking for a fight and my bairn was just dumb enough to take the bait

Was out seeing Dodie (and getting a giant bowl of pho) in Glasgow with a friend I’ve not seen in a while last night, had a cracking time. The bus was also just late enough both ways to get me a refund without actually being a problem for my plans, which I suppose is a sort of blessing?

I’ve realised that I have plans to brew some drinks for this Christmas that I may have left too late. Getting started on them tonight in the hopes that at least some of it will be ready

Never heard of bus refunds, sounds a pain to claim though. And if you brew today you can probably have an IPA for Christmas week. You’ve inspired me to make some Ginger Wine, I’ve a bottle of yu-lade ginger essence from last year still - goes great with mince pies and christmas cake

Without wanting to do too much voluntary advertising, it was Ember and they don’t even wait for you to ask for it, you just automatically get credit on your account with no expiry date within a few hours of your delayed service. I would have to contact them to get it as actual cash, but the service is generally good and I travel with them pretty often so credit works for me. They were even fine the one time I did ask for an actual cash refund

I’ve definitely got time to get one brew done, the challenge is fitting the second one in! A lot of my homebrewing is essentially “I heard about an interesting drink and can’t find anywhere reasonable to buy it”. The first one (which I have made the wort for today, I’m just waiting for it to cool down enough that I can pitch the yeast) is a coffee lager, which a friend found while he was on holiday in Canada. I’m sceptical of it, but he seemed to like it and enough of my friends were interested that it seems worth bringing a batch along for everyone to try out

The second is a bochet, which is a mead made with caramelised honey. I’ve done a semi-successful bochet before, and it was pretty good, but I’ve got improvements I want to make. I only have enough space in my fermenters to do one at a time, so I’m gonna get the coffee lager bottled in a couple of weeks and just, uhh… hope that the bochet yeast works hard. Worst case scenario I get it for Hogmanay instead of Christmas I guess!

Ginger wine really does sound like a perfect Christmas drink. I’ve done a ginger tincture for usage in cocktails before and it was great. How do you go anout doing the wine?

Yu-lade is essentially disolve sugar, cool, add the bottle. Couldn’t be easier, has citric acid in it for preserving. Yeasts if you want an alcaholic version I suppose, but it isn’t the done thing. It’s got enough kick in it already, with some sort of capsicum also in it!

Sterlize your bottles and it’ll keep for another Christmas too

Yeah this time can be crazy!! Although I just have crazy kids full of sugar and talk of elves!!! The decorations are already up in lots of their houses too so it makes them all hyper!!

Work night out is organised but as usual a bloody drama!! I haven’t decided if I’m going and having a drink or not yet. Initially I wasn’t going to go!! Couple of weeks yet to make plans!!
