This is 100% canon. Several of the “Hunter’s Notes” describe the creature’s fur in detail. For example:
Furm: A burrower that nests in the Bellvein, seeking out hard bells to protect its soft body. The hunter’s notes express a desire to feel their soft fur, despite their hostility.
