How it has always felt being a religious believer

Except, some gods don’t even respect your privacy within your house…
Just like smart TVs and vacuum cleaners and other IoT toys.

Relevant video I saw posted elsewhere on Lemmy today.

Tl;dw: Flock cameras are alarmingly easily hackable and many of their security and efficacy claims on their website are outright false.

Ease of hacking isn’t even something I considered. I just don’t want my face anywhere on whatever server because a flock camera saw me

After watching his first video, I spotted tons of cams capable of doing such surveillance (Hikvision, a Chinese brand, which offers surveillance as a Service, iiuc) on my country’s streets in Europe…

I don’t doubt that Canadian PDs are drooling over any potential of using them in Canada.

I used to get this real bad. Couldn’t leave the flat most days. I’d have my coat and shoes on, and would keep approaching the door and just couldnt leave. Sometimes I’d think I could hear footsteps in the hallway, and would have to wait by the peephole for a couple of minutes, then lose my nerve and go back to work up the courage to approach the door again. Just unable to open the door and break the seal between safety and exposure.

Seek help if you have the option. It doesnt get better on its own.

You mean because of people watching? I get this so much worse in the village than in the city, because village folks will remember and talk about your patterns, while city folks won’t.

Im in the EU thankfully, it’s not legal to record strangers (except like, a crowd where you can’t make out individuals that well). They may be watching me from the window, but they don’t talk like village folks do.

The exact stipulations strongly depend on the jurisdiction because there is no EU-wide legal framework for this.
For example, you may put them up, but then you are also required to put up warning signs so nobody runs the risk of being accidentally caught on camera. Or the cameras might not be allowed to directly face the street/ public areas, only your immediate private property.
