Do they expect the proto to jump in and save him? That’d instsntly kill them both when the water shorts out the proto’s power supply like firing the lightning gun underwater in Quake.
It’s not even just the fact he’s a Protogen. If you’re not a very strong swimmer, and someone is struggling for their life in the water, jumping in is just going to endanger your life too, as they frantically try to cling on or push you under trying to get air. That’s not to say you should be taking selfies in front of their death however lol. Maybe toss something that floats, or call for someone who has that experience.
I don’t think so? Even if the water were to short and kill the proto, I don’t see why the electricity would travel all the way to the drowning guy unless he’d be touching the proto. People are pretty bad conductors with high resistance and electricity tends to go for the best way to ground.
Though I’d imagine for very high voltages the electricity may discover your ion-rich blood is a decent enough conductor to make up for the resistance of your skin. Or you may have a cut somewhere bypassing your skin entirely.
You already answered you doubt with the last paragraph. I want to add that as they are drowning, the water also has contact with their mouth and throat, and mucus membranes have less resistance than skin.

But I don’t think a protogen has very high voltages though. Humans produce around 100 W of heat at rest so a protogen cannot produce much more without being significantly hotter. And since P = U * I there’s just so much voltage there can be to actually reach the drowning guy through all that water AND have sufficient current to cause damage.
I feel like it’s probably safe.
Fuck I never played Quake, and I don’t know why, as I enjoy very few things more than Doom and HL
