My respect for Kondou just keeps growing.

Too often, isekai serves as escapism for isekai MCs. To them, they just want to leave everything behind without a care in the world. Granted, they may have their circumstances, but in the end they are just losers at best (if they have no meaningful connections, no family or friends whatsoever), and self-centered, selfish jerks at worst (if they have loved ones but choose to forget about them).
That’s why Kondou is such a refreshing take on isekai MCs. Even when going through hard times, he never stopped being filial.
I guess that’s also why I like Subaru from Re:Zero, especially
Re:Zero out-of-context spoiler
during the parents arc.
