I think we could all poach a negative connotation from two groups but it doesn’t really make it a showerthought.

Of course you’re right. Anyone who calls someone an evil capitalist is in my experience never ever ever someone to call immigrants welfare leeches.
But… I don’t know if that’s Wong’s point. He may be pointing out that as an immigrant, you will either be hated by the conservative half of America or the progressive half of America depending on how successful you are, so you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Yes, to your point, it’s different groups doing the damning. But from the immigrant’s standpoint that doesn’t feel much nicer.
