Hi I’m new here. Meant to sign up for lemmy but accidently signed up for piefed. Did I make the right decision or do I need to jump ship

Consume few resources, to make it cheap to run. Many examples of federated software are bloated Rube Goldberg machines that require hefty servers and serious server administration skills, making money a constant problem.

Okay, I’m normally a fan of Goldberg devices, but it seems pretty weird that modern FV-level stuff has much bloat?

A lot of my focus in the last few weeks has been on bringing down CPU usage and I’ve made good progress on that.

Thank you for all your work, there. (reminder to my idiot self to get my PayPal donation stuff set up properly on this new machine)

IIRC you’ve said it only costs ~US$20/mo for the hosting, which seems rather remarkable given how blazing-fast this instance is for me. My old admin Sunaurus was paying something like ~US$200/mo, somehow needing close to 10 servers of various types to keep Lemm.ee running, and it still wasn’t this rapid.

Yes, currently $25/mo for hosting. With the efficiency improvements I’ve done recently the server is now about 2x more powerful than necessary.
