Old computer challenge V3

I stumbled upon this challenge just in time, and decided to blow the dust out of my trusty Acer Aspire one from 2008. This beast features an Intel Atom clocking at 1.67Ghz, 230Gib HDD and a whooping 1024Mib of RAM ! I slapped OpenBSD 7.3 on it just to find that my wireless card is still not supported (probably never will…). I had to scrap one from an (even older!) Asus EEE PC to get it going. It’s now up and running, ready to choke at the 512Mib limit while trying to browse the web !

I’m using st for the terminal. Programs running are sacc (gopher client), vis (text editor) and irssi (IRC client). It runs my own window manager: glazier with wmutils.

Will happily answer any questions !

Can you tell more about the challenge or share a link?

There is a link at the top of the post description ;) The goal is to use an old piece of hardware for a week, to appreciate techs that require less resources to run. You can also limit your current hardware to a single CPU core and 512Mib or RAM to try it out!

The older styled terminals are real pretty to look at. Not sure if its the font, window borders, black and white with teal accent, or all of the above, but it’s pleasing to the eyes

Thanks ! That how they look all the time to me haha so I guess it makes me old as well ^^ However I was used to black on white which makes it feel less “old school” I guess (see my usual setup)

Lol, it might just be that I’ve been looking at retro computers and terminals for inspiration, so I’m probably just seeing the resemblance. Regardless, it looks lovely!
