Yeah cassette futurism is an aesthetic subgenre of retrofuturism that imagines a SciFi future where the capabilities of technology are greater but its still has the construction and aesthetic of tech from the era of cassettes
So like the way theyre still using CRTs and magnetic tape media in Blade Runner but they can zoom and enhance, there are androids that mimic humans, and they have flying cars
Its SciFi but the technology that powers the future is frozen in time, like with steam punk, atom punk, and disel punk
There’s a more active cassette futurism comm, I didn’t realize this was a different one and is empty: !cassettefuturism@lemmy.world And its predecessor from before lemm.ee shut down !cassettefuturism@lemm.ee
They were created in the image of a reddit sub by the same name. Any would give some examples of what cassette futurism looks like- that being said I’m delighted I saw this lol. You could also share this on one of the Loops comms if you haven’t already and would like to :)

2·20 days agoAh interestimg, it makes a bit more sense now within the context of the practices from the time period, though the article you linked seems to suggest the practice didn’t have much environmental impact
thanks for the additional context :)

Frogs be looking mighty polite out here
My understanding is that the restriction comes from the great depression, when the government was worried about people poaching deer and decimating the population by hunting more than was allowed
And then we just never got rid of the exception.
Similar to how short rifles were restricted to create additional charges for bootleggers transporting alcohol during the prohibition, since being in a vehicle really benefits from having a shorter gun so bootleggers would cut length off their barrels so they could more easily handle their guns in the vehicle

Here’s my small collection lol, I use all of them at the same time every day cause I have very little access to sunlight and theyre used to treat my sleep disorder. Behind the smaller lamps is also a pair of light therapy glasses
Some things worth knowing: they can trigger manic episodes in folks with bipolar disorder, and won’t produce vitamin d like the sun, as they shouldn’t emit any UV, so if you have a vitamin D deficiency you’ll still need a supplement or sunlight. And you need to sit within the correct distance from them for them to work properly, it will vary depending on the lamp and a decent lamp should tell you that distance in the user guide/manual
Try not to use them too late in the day, as that can screw with your sleep- if you dont have my sleep disorder you should be okay to just go by when the sun is up or has set, as a guideline for it being too late
Carex makes the nicest ones I’ve used by far (thats what the big one in my pic is, though an older model, they have nicer ones out now). There are some other brands that make less expensive ones, but they may not be as bright or have as ideal of a light spectrum. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I’m not an expert but my condition has necessitated learning a lot about these things
