No. Everything OK. I was actually wondering what makes an Ubuntu server different? I run many Linux servers myself. Almost all with Debian. For a time it was also Centos. But since more and more systems are a KVM or Docker host, the duration of support no longer plays such a big role, because everything can be migrated quickly. Ubuntu on the desktop has made itself unpopular with the many solo efforts. Lastly Snap as an example. Or Upstart, the desktop as i remember correctly MIR…
Why Ubuntu Server? What about Debian as a server?
Interesting question. From that perspective someone could ask „Why not windows Server?“
Because ubuntu server is a frequently used distro that has its own issues and support is generally appreciated by people. As I wrote, there is an active subreddit which this is supposed to be a mirror of.
Feel free to make a debian server community. Or have I missed your point?
From my perspective and experience: Debian was always up to date with security fixes but rather late with feature / package updates. Compared to Ubuntu, it is a rather conservative approach. But nowadays when running applications with Docker, this shouldn’t be much of a hassle anywhere. Containers are the great equaliser on any host.
