- Australian scientists have developed a new apple variety tailored for Asian export markets.
- The ANABP 01 apple appeals to Asian taste preferences for sweet, sub-acid apples with fine, crisp texture.
- It is expected to drive growth in Australian apple exports to key Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia.
- The new variety was developed using selective breeding and extensive field testing by CSIRO over several years.
- Export-focused apple varieties can boost horticulture growth and farmer incomes if matched with targeted marketing.
I recently discovered a place I could get Envy apples for around $2/kg. Can confirm, they’re amazing. I’ve seen Honeycrisp around for about $3.50/kg but I haven’t seen SweeTango anywhere. Might buy a few Honeycrisp just to try.
