Some time ago, I got really interested in Monero, and it still continues to amaze me to this day. I have even been hosting my own node to support the network for almost a year now. The thing is, during all this time, my wallet balance has been sitting at 0.0 simply because I don’t find a good reason to use Monero. I can’t use it to pay friends because they don’t use it. I don’t buy much stuff, just groceries at the local market, where, of course, they only take fiat, and I don’t want to buy things I don’t need just to use the coin.
My question is, should I buy some just for the sake of having it? I am not looking forward to speculating, so I don’t find any reason to do that either.
I am really just looking for some opinions, so any replies will be appreciated.
I’ve been collecting some:
- To support the project
- In the hopes that XMR one day will become the mainstream currency, in which case early bought coins will likely be worth more.
- To protect myself against FIAT, which will eventually lead to hyper inflation, due to deficit spending and fractional banking. However I diversify my portfolio, it’s not smart to put all your eggs in 1 basket. Only a small percentage of it goes into crypto.
I have mined some Monero. I, too, do not see any usage for it, but I mined to strengthen the blockchain. However, I can use to donate to an open-source developer or somewhere similar, if they accept Monero.
You can use CakePay Web, to get an anonymous VISA card, and use that to pay online stores. There are many services that can give you gift cards for many companies which you can redeem online or in-store.
