tl;dr Rules are temporarily relaxed to allow episode discussion posts about winter shows until shinobu starts posting them again.
You may have noticed that the Winter 2024 season has started, but the discussion threads over on !episode_discussion@ani.social have not been posted for any of the new shows. There is good and bad news to share with you all.
The good news is that discussion threads are likely to start up again quite soon. The pull request has been merged into the github project that shinobu is forked from. So, it is a matter of our friendly shinobu maintainer to get them merged and update shinobu’s database with the new show info. I have confirmed that the new commits are working with a test instance, so please be a bit patient while that is being taken care of.
The bad news is that when that occurs, shinobu will likely blast all the discussion threads at once into the community. This will make it hard to find discussions for the shows that people actually want to talk about. So, I have decided to allow for episode discussion posts to be created for missing winter shows in this community until shinobu is back on their feet.
I will make a follow-up post when this situation changes. Hope everybody is finding something they like in the new season!

I added a couple discussion threads to the community to kick things off, people should feel free to make their own. No rules around titles/formatting other than to make it clear what show + episode you are posting about.

Yup. I’m planning to do the thing overnight so that the backlogged posts fall out of the “Hot”/“Scaled” queues before most users have any a chance to see them.

On that note… I’m thinking about migrating from the Holo bot codebase to the Rikka codebase you’ve been working on. Probably not at the same time we load the new seasonal config… but likely sometime in the nearish future. I suspect that the new engagement-based options you’ve introduced will help considerably reduce future backlog spam
Work has been tough for me too, so I haven’t gotten a chance to do much more improvement to rikka lately. Something that came up recently is that I want to figure out a more elegant solution to the long post title problem. And then my big wishlist item is to be able to create/edit megathreads in the main community like I talked about over here.
Has anyone talked to @chaorace@lemmy.sdf.org to find out what’s going on with shinobu?
The last I heard was this comment in an ml thread (that has so far escaped being removed despite containing links to this instance). At this point, I am expecting there to be a huge deluge of posts one morning when I wake up as Shinobu catches up with all the shows she missed for the season up to now.
Yeah, but I can’t communicate back when people mention me because federation has been broken on SDF for almost a week now. Not that it helps to reply when I know that already… but let me know if you actually receive this!
