MLK also said without extremists like Malcolm, the civil rights movement would have taken decades longer…

Mostly due to “moderates” and religious leaders who acknowledged there was a problem, but refused for decades to address it.

Ignoring problems doesn’t solve them. And when it’s about human rights, we can’t as a society kick the can down the road for decades.

Just look at how the LGBT community is treated today.

I think the church needs to learn how to love people no matter whether they agree with their life styles.

Jesus certainly taught that by example in his life.

How are they treated today? I guess I am in a bubble, because I only see positive treatment in both media and private life.

So you’re not seeing LGBT-phobic bills, or people carrying rifles into libraries to prevent drag queens from reading to children, or the entirety of the Republican slate of presidential candidates trying to outcompete each other with transphobia?

Yes, you live in a bubble.

I’ve seen a couple of bill proposals that got shot down in Florida, which is one of, if not the most conservative state in the union. Otherwise no, I haven’t seen that other stuff. Is that common, or very rare events that get heavy news coverage?

Perhaps it has been pretty in your face, but not in mine. But I live in a very blue area (like 98%), and I only have a couple of gay friends. Those friends don’t complain about unfair treatment, but they don’t follow the news and politics either. My question wasn’t an argument, it was a question.
