This is potentially a very silly question but it also occurs to me that this may be far more complicated than first glance. It could even vary by instance. Are reports sent only to the moderators of the given community or admins as well? Maybe even the admins of the troublemaker’s instance?
From what I have read, reports go to both the community moderators and the admins. Also it goes to the admins of the instance the user that makes the report is from. For example, if a user from lemmy.world reports a comment, lemmy.world admins can “remove” it, but it is only removed for users from lemmy.world.
If removed by a moderator or admin from the community/instance the report is about, it is removed for everyone.
Do I understand this correctly?
Example:
- user@lemmy.world makes a comment in lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/main
- Users report it
- Mods of lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/main are notified
- If they remove it, it is removed everywhere
- Admins of lemmy.blahaj.zone are notified
- If they remove it, it is removed everywhere
- Admins of lemmy.world are notified
- If they remove it, it is removed in lemmy.world
- Mods of lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/main are notified
I believe that for example
User@lemmy.world makes a post in !196@blahaj.zone
User@lemmy.world reports that post
Mods of !196@blahaj.zone get a report
- if they remove it, it is removed for everyone
Admins of @blahaj.zone get a report
- if they remove it, it is removed for everyone
Admins of @lemmy.world get a report
- if they remove it, it is removed for all @lemmy.world user’s
It is the final point I am not 100% on, but that is how I’ve seen it described.
what if a user@some_ware.else makes the report?
I believe it’s this, but i’m not certain: Reports are sent to mods of the community where the reported content is, the admins of the instance where the reported content is, and the admins of the instance the reporting user is logged in. Also keep in mind reports are not anonymous, mods can see who sent it.

Yeah and it’s not just relorts. Overall, one of the biggest flaws with Lemmy right now is user privacy. Assume everything you send here in any capacity is undeletable and viewable by anyone. (It’s not that bad, but better safe than sorry).
