What do you really need to be happy? Somewhere to live where you feel calm and safe, money for food and bills.
The reason a lot of people want more and more is because they compare themselves to others, and then they need a life style to support that luxary house or whatever it is. Meaning they are probably not happy because now their job is eating up all their energy and time.
That fixed budget is what they always say. The budget for the company is their problem, not yours.
You will soon become just as jaded as the rest of us, and stop expecting your company to appreciate you. It wont feel good but you can change jobs often and get your salary up without any feelings of illusional loyalty.
Never had any problems with Americans anywhere.
Portugal dislikes all immigration because it has ruined their housing market and made it impossible for natives to buy homes at their salary level.
Maybe its Americans buying houses but they dont really dislike Americans as people. They just want their home country to work for people who live there.

I dont believe in that separation. Its all just people. Politics try to make you guys two sides fighting eachother but you have much more incommon with eachother than the owner class.
