7·15 days agoI mean they didn’t go “well, let’s just use 2GB more RAM now”. They looked at the pre-release, and judged that for a good experience you should have 6GB. Chances are that resource consumption of 25.10 hasn’t been very different in practice.

5·4 months agoSpätestens bei der Lieferadresse braucht man im Normalfall seinen Klarnamen (selbst bei Lieferung an Packstation, mit Postnummer, sonst verweigert DHL die Zustellung), dann macht es keinen Sinn darüber oder darunter einen Fake-Namen einzugeben. Landet in der gleichen Datenbank.
Knowbe your enemy, they say.But jokes aside, I believe DisplayLink’s focus is primarily on the client<->docking station part, with docking station<->monitor usually still being HDMI/DP (same with direct client<->monitor links). So they still have to interface with it some way or another.
2·7 months agoExcept you’re still trusting a lot of people and systems there. Those that programmed, compiled and/or packaged your software in use (be it e.g. the cryptographic libraries themselves, the OS, random user space applications you are running that might be able to access your mail some way or another…), the hardware you use, the software, hardware and OpSec of the recipient…
The amount of people who have actually the resources, time and knowledge to eliminate all these points (i.e. reviewing the entire source code of all the software you use, and all the diffs of every new release you use, somehow check all the firmware blobs for your hardware or manage to get a fully de-blobbed system running and connected to the internet, and otherwise making sure your keyboard doesn’t sent a copy of every keystroke to “the enemy”, …) is very low. And the amount of people who actually do it might be zero? Not even a person in the NSA will have done all of this themself. They’re trusting some coworkers for some of these parts…

Ja, weil wenn ich das richtig interpretiere dann kostet das schon der “mittelständischen” Familie im Einfamilienhaus mit Garten auf dem Land oder Reihenhaus in der Stadt 10.000€+ im Jahr. Das ist bei den allermeisten nicht drin.

was so ziemlich nichtssagend ist, da sie ja bekannterweise vor allem durch das Unterlassen notwendiger Interconnect-Upgrades drosseln, im Versuch bestehende Settlement Free Interconnects zu bezahltem Transit zu erpressen. Siehe damals YouTube und zuletzt auch Meta, oder die generell mangelnden Kapazitäten zu anderen Tier 1 Providern. Ist ne schicke Grauzone, schwer nachzuweisen und einfach sich rauszureden.

That’s definitely true, but I’d still say the president shouldn’t even have the power to issue such decrees. Many of these things wouldn’t even happen if the president would first have to convince the legislative body (even if controlled by his own party) to write a law. Reverting an already issued decree is harder than saying no beforehand, and politically much more delicate.
