Best example of this is zero calorie vegatiable oil cooking spray. The serving size is a hilarious 1 second squirt, which contains so few calories that they’re allowed to mark the can as zero calorie.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why Are New Appliances So Bad? [41:02]English
4·2 days agoWatching Technology Connections recent final (probably not final) video on dishwashers made me really want an open source dishwasher where you can program your own cycles. Maybe over the next few years hacking appliances will become common, doing what Valetudo has done for robot vacuums.

21·2 days agoYeah. I’m not saying I like it or that it’s how it should be. It’s just how it is. I basically go to reddit last these days.

I actually did the thing where you don’t have your phone in bed.
I 3d modeled and printed a double decker wall mounted shelf that perfectly fits my partner’s and my phones, including embedded wireless chargers. It hangs on the wall outside our door, so we can still use wireless headphones to listen to music/whatever. I also installed a couple of super simple games on my watch that I play when I’m struggling to get to sleep. If I really can’t sleep, I grab my phone and go to the living room to fiddle about - though sometimes I try to be productive - then come back to bed when I feel tired. I also don’t do books in bed, as I tend or go full ADHD and finish novels in a single night.
This has been going on for nearly a year now, and it definitely 1000% helps me to get to sleep sooner after I get in bed. It’s hard to stick to it, but if you can, you will feel healthier.
Man I just want slightly tweaked BeamNG physics in all other games that involve driving. BeamNG in GTA. BeamNG in Forza. BeamNG in Far Cry, BeamNG in, hell, Tokyo Extreme Racer - ok maybe not that one.

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows drive letters are not limited to A-ZEnglish
19·8 days agoThe Linux approach did take some getting used to, of course, but mounting drives to folders just makes too much sense. The only qualm I’ve had with it is if the drive doesn’t get mounted and stuff gets written to that folder, which, AFAIK, isn’t possible in windows.
Also, tbf (and balanced), windows also supports mounting drives to folders iirc, it’s just a weird way to do it.
What worked for me is just setting an alarm for 8 hours from when I get in bed, or when I need to be up, whichever comes first. I wrote a Tasker automation to manage it for me, and all I have to do it press a button when I go to bed.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week - Ars TechnicaEnglish
5·10 days agoI ran Jellyfin and plex for a while, using Jellyfin instead of plex at every oppurtunity. Then Jellyfin broke, I couldn’t figure out how to fix it in an evening, and I just went back to using Plex, which had continued working. It isn’t great, sure, but it’s fine. I think Jellyfin would need to be Immich levels of cool, or plex would actually need to be unusable for me to switch.
Extracting a stripped Phillips is way worse than running to the store for a set of torx bits haha
What’s wrong with Torx? Better than phillips innit?
I’m a Gearhead and I love driving, but don’t entirely disagree tbh. It’s probably more of a “doing something you dislike but must do to function” type of thing. Driving is akin to working a dead end office job for a lot of people. Hell, even I dislike driving in any medium-large sized town/city.
My grandpa bought a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 25 years ago. He kept it up, and now it’s mine. It was a top trim luxury car when it was new, and it has screws exposed on things like the A pillars. My 1993 Subaru Loyale also has exposed screws everywhere. It’s so fucking nice, as compared to my newer vehicles where I break 17 plastic tabs off trying to remove the A pillar trim. It’s asinine, exposed screws look dope.

This is a obviously correct comment, but if something is in the house, I’m gonna be snacking on it. The only solution for me was to make the decision to eat healthy at the grocery store, not at home.
