Urban exploring (for lack of a better term) with no purpose other than to discover. I live in a city and I’m constantly just wandering around going down streets I’ve never been down or into alleys I’ve never been in or checking out stores I’ve never been to. This is my approach when I travel to other cities and other countries too, I often don’t have a plan for my trip/vacation, I just arrive there and then start to wander and see what I find.
I haven’t figured this out either, there might not be a way to do it at all within the app. Hopefully that will come in a new update because it’s really annoying when I see a link for a community I want to subscribe to and I just want to stay in the app!
Where are my fellow Giants fans? We need a place too! I’m a total newbie to all this I have no idea how to create one myself :(
I love veggies but honestly, raw is my least favorite way to eat them. I’m all about roasting them up with some delicious herbs and spices!
I thought I was the only person that almost exclusively listened to the radio! I live in an area with a good variety of stations so that helps, I realize some people have very little options when they turn on the radio. I occasionally put on Pandora when I want to listen to a specific obscure genre or YouTube when I’m looking up a specific artist.
I read The Road and it just didn’t click with me, I finished it feeling like it was just “ok.” I think part of the problem was how much it had been hyped up by other readers and how famous it was and I went into it expecting to be changed when I came out, though I wasn’t. I’ll give McCarthy another try though, I have both No County for Old Men and Blood Meridian sitting on my bookshelf and I’ll get to them eventually.
When I’m at home I prefer physical books, they simply make me happy. Also, buying them on my Kindle is really not much cheaper than buying the actual book, especially when I have a huge and amazing used bookstore a couple blocks away from my house where I can get them for the cheapest!
When I’m traveling, I prefer my Kindle because it’s light and takes up very little space in my suitcase. Also, I can have multiple books on me during a trip which is great because sometimes I like to read multiple books at the same time and I’ll pick up whichever one I’m in the mood for. When I’m traveling, I’m certainly not going to bring two or three different physical books with me. One other area that the e-reader is superior in has to do with all the wonderful classics that are public domain and free!
I’ve tried audio books two or three times but I just can’t get into them. I don’t feel the same level of engagement when I’m listening that I do when I’m reading and I don’t feel that I experience them the same way, so I just don’t bother with audio books anymore.
I hope that button gets implemented, that would be perfect!
This is absolutely the best way to approach it, consistency is what wins the battle. You have an event or a meal that you can’t track? Afterwards just stay the course and keep going. You did track it and it was waaaaay over your calorie budget? Afterwards just stay the course and keep going. You can be successful by just staying on track for more time than you’re off it and that’s actually very forgiving, it gives a lot of leeway.
Generally any produce I can get at the local farmers market; it’s just so, so much better than anything in the grocery store.
Some specific foods that just scream “summer” to me are tomato sandwiches, watermelon, and grilled corn.
Give us “normies” a little credit. I’m not technical minded AT ALL and I’m still willing to stick around and figure out how this shit works. Do I understand it? Hardly. Does the app I’m using (Jerboa) work? Barely. (Although today’s new release has improved it greatly, thanks guys!). But I’m still floundering around here and it’s a bit frustrating. I’m still going to give it a go though. I’m confident that improvements will come that make it easier here for everyone like me that uses the internet a lot but doesn’t really understand the internet that much.
But maybe I’m just willing to stick it out because I was only looking for an excuse to leave Reddit and the means to do so. I admit I don’t really care about the recent debacle, I just miss the old Reddit of 10-15 years ago and I don’t like what it’s become (a place full of memes, TikTok videos, dumb jokes, and hardly any real conversation anymore). It took this most recent fiasco for people to start talking about alternatives and that’s when I finally learned about the fediverse and made the move. It has been a lot easier to leave when I knew where I could go.
Fellow plant enthusiast here, thanks for the link to your instance!
This is my first experience with fediverse, I had never even heard of it before. So far it’s going okay, there are some things I wish were different or easier, but maybe that’s just because it’s new and feels clunky because I haven’t figured it all out yet.
In general though I am enjoying Lemmy so far, it feels like being on internet message boards back in the old days (20-25 years ago)!
I agree that this will be a fun evolution to watch!
Your picture isn’t showing up for me :( I also haven’t been able to use the app yet, I downloaded it but no matter what button I press on the screen it just keeps telling me I need to “login first” and I can’t log in anywhere…
The one thing that I don’t like is that you can’t change your home instance. I signed up for Lemmy without knowing anything about it, and I mean I knew absolutely ZERO about how it works. Therefore, I just clicked on a random instance because I didn’t even know what an instance was, and I signed up. So what if I joined the wrong one for me? What if it turns out to be shit? I Guess I could just sign up for a different one with a different login, but wish there was an option to jump to a new one with your same login if you wanted to.
Oh god I got so tired of the jokes. In the beginning I liked to see them peppered in here and there, and I love a good pun, but it just became so overdone and forced. Every thread was just lines and lines and lines of jokes (many of them weren’t even good) with no actual conversation. It got boring.
I think you’re right that trying to figure out how it all works will be a barrier for some and they won’t bother. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of user base this grows into!
In a way I’m a little sad but I’m also hopeful. I started on Reddit 13 years ago and it was a very different place than it is now. I liked it better then, and I think I’m sad and will miss it for what it was, not what it is. I’m hopeful for a fresh start here on Lemmy where it feels like I’m getting back to the actual conversation with other users, which is what I miss about the current Reddit. There’s very little conversation there anymore, so much of it is just pictures and jokes and bots.
Cute! Looks like that lion is ready to give somebody a fist bump.
