It actually was vaporware. Announced in 2012 and originally scheduled for release in 2014, it was officially cancelled in 2016, only to be re-announced in 2018, with a release probably “several years away”.

SteamOS would be a particular poor choice as a desktop operating system compared to basically any other Linux distribution. It uses an immutable file system and reverts all system changes upon every update. That’s nice if you don’t want to fuck up your handeheld gaming device with some dumb changes, but it’s generally not what you will want on a device you use for all kinds of things. Of course, with some effort you can work around this, but then, why don’t use a system that doesn’t just use such a paradigm in the first place and won’t roll back your workaround to make it usable with the next update?

If you have billions of targets to scan, there’s generally no need to handle each and every edge case. Just ignoring what you can’t understand easily and jumping on to the next target is an absolutely viable strategy. You will never be able to process everything anyway.

Of course, it changes a bit if some of these targets actually make your bot crash. If it happens to often, you will want to harden your bot against it. Then again, if it just happens every now and then, it’s still much easier to just restart and continue with the next target.

It’s not my thing either, but I understand running old games on the original hardware. There’s probably very little reason then to put a modern operating system between the two, let alone one which offers “near-native” (= worse) performance (and reduced compability in the first place).

According to the Kickstarter page, they’re 21 people working on the game, they want to release in 18 months and they need $ 170,000 to do that (which, by the way, they already got). Well, one thing is that it is a ranking of 50 games without a word of explanation how this ranking was created. Who says #37 is better than #38 is better than #39 is better than #40? And then also, if this is a ranking, why make it that big in the first place? Different people have different tastes, but a ranking says #1 is the best game, #2 the second-best, #3 the third-best - who should care for the 50th-best one if there were 49 better games this year alone?

I haven’t played GTA Online in a while, but a thing we always used to do in our group was ending the session by visting someone’s apartment or biker club or yacht or whatever, going to the bar there, and getting drunk until someone had to respawn at the hospital. Visits to public nightclubs or the casino and getting drunk there (sometimes even dancing or gambling before doing so!) was more a mid-session thing for us.

10 Millionen Euro pro Jahr hängen am Großstadtstatus? Also eine Stadt mit 99.999 Einwohnern kriegt 10 Millionen Euro weniger als eine mit 100.000? Was für Gelder sind das denn, aus welchen Töpfen kommen die, wofür sind die gedacht und wie wird es begründet, dass die alleine am Erreichen bestimmter Schwellenwerte hängen?

Doch, darf man. Wie in Deutschland darf man mit Krankschreibung nichts tun, was die Genesung behindert. Aber wenn man der Ansicht ist, dass die abgeschlossen ist (ganz oder soweit, dass die ausgeübte Tätigkeit halt nicht mehr hinderlich ist), darf man sehr wohl arbeiten. Kann dann (auch wie in Deutschland) versicherungsrechtlich noch spannend werden, wenn es während der Krankschreibung zu einem Arbeitsunfall kommt und die Versicherung der Ansicht ist, das sei selbstverschuldet, weil eben noch nicht fit. Also im Zweifel ist lieber davon abzuraten, krankgeschrieben zu arbeiten, aber dürfen tut man es, auch in der Schweiz.
