The fact they did do all that is what makes this so amazing. The edges of the eyes is what convinced me it’s not a photo.

gazter@aussie.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Celsius and Metric users of Lemmy, is there any cute tips or sayings that help generalize a measurement?1·2 days agoMinecraft is secretly bringing metric to the next generation.
I’m just going to start saying ‘blocks’ instead of metres to the youth from now on. I’ll get them used to it, then casually mention ‘kiloblocks’ one day and watch their face as they realise.

This thing is totally not for me, but I’ve got plenty of other useless crap that I love because I just think it’s cool, so you do you! Enjoy it.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which country do you live in and how much paid time off work do you get?1·7 days agoYep. I want to choose my own vacation time, thank you very much.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which country do you live in and how much paid time off work do you get?1·7 days agoI started with a new employer just before they shut over Christmas. When my next payslip came through and I saw my holiday time had been reduced, into the negative, I was livid.

I bought a multi tool that has one of these built in.

gazter@aussie.zoneto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Saudi Arabia rolls out customized mobile McDonald's for Trump visitEnglish3·10 days agoI did mean the government, and by Trump I meant the current administration under Trump.
But now you mention it, I can’t think of a single Saudi person I’m a fan of, despite working there on and off for some time.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Saudi Arabia rolls out customized mobile McDonald's for Trump visitEnglish202·10 days agoI know it’s fun to use this sort of thing to bag on the Saudis and on Trump, and I’m a fan of neither, but just wanted to point out that this kind of thing is pretty common.
It’s just a food truck. Sure it’s a bit bigger than your average food truck, but that are catering to larger crowds. I’ve seen these at events across Europe, and in Australia. I’m sure there’s plenty trundling around the States as well.
The way I understand it, a physical asset is something you can see and touch, like a house or a hammer. There’s things that a share gives me that BTC does not, but ultimately they are more similar to each other than to something like a physical chunk of gold or a silo full of grain.
There is no physical company. I can’t eat Microsoft any more than I can eat a Bitcoin, as much as I might want to.
I never knew prescriptions were country dependent- What differs?
My response is similar, usually the good old ‘Do you shut the door when you shit?’.
When we start getting specific, I’ll often try and frame data harvesting in a much more visceral way. If they say they don’t care that xyz keeps track of everyone they talk to, I ask them to imagine an actual person standing behind them, making notes on a clipboard about every interaction they have with someone, and how that would make them feel.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My dearest Lemmy, what is the appliance you have the most beef with?3·17 days agoYou could get your thermostat checked. Depending on the stove, it’s something you could probably do yourself. It’s like a ten dollar part, maybe?
gazter@aussie.zoneto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Czech climber Adam Ondra climbing El Capitán in Yosemite National Park8·18 days agoI don’t think any of the climbers I know would call it an adrenaline sport. It’s slow, considered, thoughtful. It certainly gets a high sometimes, pun intended, but it’s much more akin to a runners high or the elation of finishing a difficult task well.
I agree there is an obfuscation of what is happening under the hood in Windows and Mac systems- but that doesn’t stop the tech savvy from digging a bit further. I played around with resource files back in my System 6, 7, and 8 days, and got pretty comfortable with registry edits from Windows 95 onwards.
I think it’s more that Linux only appeals to the tech savvy, precisely because of the lack of that obfuscation layer.
gazter@aussie.zoneto Cyberstuck@lemmy.ca•Cybertruck Off-Road Lights Keep Falling Off… As the Glue Holding Them to the Windshield Fails3·23 days agoNot trying to defend the cybertruck here, but just wanted to point out that quite a lot of exterior parts are generally held on by glue, across the whole industry. Windshields, for one.
Do a good wash, and wax. Wax is a protective coating- do this every few months and it makes cleaning quick and easy, as well as protecting the paint. Every time you do it it’s like putting money in the bank, a car with good paint looks like a nice car, and people pay more money for a nice car.
Buy a little bottle of rain-x. Read the instructions. Do them twice for the first go. It makes an insane difference for your vision when driving in the rain, and driving in the rain is when you really need to see.
Learn how to change a tyre before you need to do it. Figure out how the jack works, and where you need to put it under the car so you don’t damage anything.
Don’t trust your drunk self. The cost of a taxi home and back to your car the next day is way, way less than the cost of having to live with the fact that you are responsible for the death of someone’s child. Don’t give a shit if you feel fine. Give your keys to the barman if you when think you might try and drive.
As far as I recall, you only see the top part of it in one or two background scenes. So the legs aren’t even necessary, they’re just there to help the puppeteer of a background character stay in character.
