I get to post again! When CTH went private on reddit I couldn’t join for some reason. Even though I had several posts in the upper 2000s. Glad to be back!
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
Ok I might.
But China bad, mmmmkay? How dare they, um, actually enforce the law on the 1%?!?
One. Hundred. Fucking. Percent.
They call it a ‘rentier’ based capitalism where you never get to own anything, just have to keep paying for the same thing over and over. It is insane.
Sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Time is kind of an iterative equasion so we can predict something to an extent but because we don’t no the initial conditions to an infinite degree there will always be chaos. That’s where the freedom is. As in, it’s both. There is deterministic (you didn’t choose where you were born, your economic status) but with those initial conditions you can make choices etc.
Didn’t the same thing happen two months ago? I was sure Mayo Pete was gonna put his foot down and make a very stern speech using perfect Obama cadence to convince the industry to be better. I mean, he did such a great job with E. Palestine train wreck… just look at all the regulations that still don’t exist
If it’ll run on the steam deck it’s getting installed now
Gangsters of Capitalism
Publisher’s Summary
A groundbreaking journey tracing America’s forgotten path to global power - and how its legacies shape our world today - told through the extraordinary life of a complicated Marine.
Smedley Butler was the most celebrated warfighter of his time. Best-selling books were written about him. Hollywood adored him. Wherever the flag went, “The Fighting Quaker” went - serving in nearly every major overseas conflict from the Spanish War of 1898 until the eve of World War II. From his first days as a 16-year-old recruit at the newly seized Guantánamo Bay, he blazed a path for empire: helping annex the Philippines and the land for the Panama Canal, leading troops in China (twice), and helping invade and occupy Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Mexico, and more. Yet in retirement, Butler turned into a warrior against war, imperialism, and big business, declaring: “I was a racketeer for capitalism."
Award-winning author Jonathan Myerson Katz traveled across the world - from China to Guantánamo, the mountains of Haiti to the Panama Canal - and pored over the personal letters of Butler, his fellow Marines, and his Quaker family on Philadelphia’s Main Line. Along the way, Katz shows how the consequences of the Marines’ actions are still very much alive: talking politics with a Sandinista commander in Nicaragua, getting a martial arts lesson from a devotee of the Boxer Rebellion in China, and getting cast as a POW extra in a Filipino movie about their American War. Tracing a path from the first wave of US overseas expansionism to the rise of fascism in the 1930s to the crises of democracy in our own time, Gangsters of Capitalism tells an urgent story about a formative era most Americans have never learned about, but that the rest of the world cannot forget.
So Zelinski makes all the leftist parties illegal and agrees to sell off all the public resources to Goldman Sachs and that’s a win. Hoo Ray. Goooo western corporate capitalism! Maybe they can end up like LA or Portland with a massive homeless population but lots of profit for the investors.
The polls are interesting. They show Ukraine is not a monolith so when you say ‘they’ have a right to defend ‘themselves’ you need to define which ‘they’. Also no polling data at all from Crimea which is suddenly the new thing that needs to be ‘saved’ even tho most of those folks (90%) wanted to join Russia.
In the end it doesn’t matter. It’s a war bet capitalists and everyone loses except Lockheed, US LNG exporters etc. It’s a big win for them.

And further about the idea it is a monolith here’s the polling data

So do Ukrainian citizens in Donbass who are being shelled by Azov Nazis have the right to defend themselves?
Sutree by Cormac McCarthy and Ulysses by James Joyce at the moment. Just finished some Marxist theory with Engles.
Reading rules
Well To Be Fair he was in the system. He only got ‘out’ as it were because of a girlfriend he met in central America who had a conscience. One of those things you know. You are so in the system that even though you’re shown the reality of how awful it is, you still want to believe it was somewhat ok because of whatever. Like libs that get a taste of radical thought, they’re so preprogrammed…
But still. Straight line from the tactics of economic hit men to Jeffery Epstein. Shit never ended and is still happening today
Oh dune… Such amazing literature
