The problem is not even the company per se but the fact that the prime minister is hiding something. First he said the company was only for managing some family rural properties, then it was revealed it got money from large companies like the casino, and he tried to say they were his sons’ clients, then he admitted they were his clients but that they would become his son’s clients. In the middle of this it was revealed he bought a flat to merge with the flat he already owned, paid it through several accounts that coincidentally were all below he balance that would force him to disclose them to the courts, and he started construction to merge them without license from the city hall, because according to the mayor “they trust the word of the prime minister that there’s no structural changes to the building”. While construction is ongoing he was staying with his family in a 5 star hotel without paying - his defense was that he was eventually going to pay, but at the hotel’s rates that’s basically impossible with his know income.
In the middle of this the main opposition party wanted to have parliamentary enquiry on the prime minister’s business and that’s when he called for the Vote of Confidence.
When the opposition parties said they didn’t want the vote and that it was irresponsible he first said that he would remove it if there was no enquiry and then tried to haggle by saying he would accept enquiry if it was limited to 15 days.
As for it to be a boon to the far-right, I doubt it. The opinion polls show them going down, and I assume that’s because more than 20% of their elected politicians have been either convicted or are being accused of crimes, ranging from stealing luggage in the airport to sexual abuse of minors.
The article doesn’t do justice to the scandal
