I wanted to get a pulse check on how new members are finding the general experience/website. Is it more confusing than Reddit or are you finding the instance system a better way of doing things as it can give you more freedom of where you choose to create an account?
I’m a new user myself but have found the experience to remind me of Reddit back in the day, lol. It’s definitely giving me old-school yet modern vibes and it’s great to see something that isn’t Reddit growing in popularity!
Literally just got here, but I’m finding it easier to get started than Mastodon, since communities are easy to find.
However I’m wondering if there is a bunch of communities I have yet to discover, and no idea how to discover them.
I started building lemmyverse.net to start indexing all the communities and their stats. I found the existing community browser was lacking, and this makes it nice and easy to find some new ones.
On the website, click the top right menu (3 bars). The first option should be where you find other communities. I’m not sure what it’s called in English since mine is not in English. Anyway, from there it’s possible to see and search which communities you’re subscribed to, which communities are on the local instance and which are on “all”.
On the Jerboa app for android the same option is available from the bottom of the screen. Second button which looks like three dots and three lines goes directly to the community search.
The three bar menu is called a hamburger menu
