From Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

When a Windermere tree service encountered a pair of baby Barred Owls in a damaged tree slated for removal last week, they contacted us. It’s generally against the law to disturb the nest of a protected species like this, but the tree was split and leaning dangerously close to a house. Because the workers called us, we could advise them on the best course of action, which was to locate a safe nearby tree while one of our volunteers headed their way with a nest basket. Once there, the workers attached the basket to a nearby tree, and we safely renested the owlets.

The parents watched the whole process from a branch nearby, and we’re happy to say that the family is thriving in their new nest! Thanks to West Tree Services LLC for making the right decision to seek our help with these precious owlets, and to the homeowner for providing us with updates on the family!
