Seeking asylum between ports of entry is legal. In fact, the US is obliged to allow people to apply for asylum due to our treaty obligations.

This policy is dumb and cruel. The people coming here are people who will enrich our country. Study after study shows that immigration is a positive sum process that is good for everyone.

Whether or not its being abused, do you understand the asylum process is, many times, to give a immigration chance to those that would otherwise be dead if they followed the regular immigration process? As in, your home country will kill you for religious, sexual preference, or political reasons.

That’s exactly what they are trying to do

In Matamoros, Mexico, across the border from Brownsville, Texas, Esmeralda Castro of El Salvador worried the asylum halt will drive more people to compete for the 1,450 slots awarded daily to enter legally through U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s heavily oversubscribed online app, known as CBP One. Castro, 40, said she has tried for nine months for an appointment using the app.
