Specifically I’m unable to change my keyboard input language when in the app, emojis don’t always work, and there is no way to use hexbear emojis in app.

If there is an app or there that solves these issues I’m all for it

:emote-code: reference or knowledge is required in every one I’ve tried. I just use the web client.

    Raccoon 1.12.0, Eternity 0.1.2, Thunder 0.4.0

Voyager 2.12.4 latest doesn’t list any “”“tankie”“” instances seemingly, probably some way to get do it but meh

      re:voyager

Hexbear is hidden from their list of instances you can pick to sign up for, and it shepherds you into lemmy.world by default but if you click “Log In” at the bottom of the welcome page rather than “join lemmy.world or pick another server”, you can type in hexbear.net manually and log in.

Jerboa would probably take a PR to add an emote picker, but I guess we’re the only ones who make heavy use of the feature

afaik the only way to do hexbear stickers is by inputting the colon code, which has to be known or looked up elsewhere, and then the stickers only display through hexbear ui and not for other ui

If you input the colon code in the Hexbear web UI it should automatically be replaced with an embedded image which is visible from all instances/apps. However, if you literally just include the text, then yes, it will only display on Hexbear. I think that’s mostly a legacy feature, since without it all the pre-federation emotes (which worked by replacing the text in comments/posts with images) wouldn’t display, so if you want to make sure that everyone can see your emotes try to used the modern embedded images when possible!

I use thunder. Its the only one that shows emotes properly. And you can save them. Its the most solid app I have used (trust me I tried em all, they all bungle the emojis except thunder).

No yeah it loads them as images. Other apps bungle it and even garble the comment. Thunder does fine. I don’t know about server load.

I save some emotes that I use from threads I read. Use em later I guess.

it shouldn’t matter if you reupload emojis. The image backend is smart enough to see it’s the same image and just add a new link that points to the same file on disk.

Though they won’t get emoji styling applied in the web ui if the image markdown doesn’t have the right tag after it, they’ll be large, blurred, and hidden behind a Show button

            e.g. ![](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/1ce95a7b-7bbf-4c2d-aeba-8c7a390d2c40.png)

            vs.

            ![](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/1ce95a7b-7bbf-4c2d-aeba-8c7a390d2c40.png "emoji sicko-yes")

In the process of testing out the above I discovered that you can also do this:

            ![](https://hexbear.net "emoji sicko-yes")

you don’t have to have the emoji URL at all, our UI will retrieve the right image for you. This means you could have an image that appears as one image to people on other instances but a regular emoji to someone browsing from hexbear.net. Devious

First lemmy client i used was Voyager, i switched to Jerboa because it’s way better. I would love to see them expand the search engine like when you use lemmy on your computer browser.
