    1. Not having any coherent politics to start with, which means they had to grasp for something when they realized juvenile shit like libertarianism falls apart under the slightest pressure; and
    2. Not giving a shit about poor people.

    Because material conditions.

    But Seriously…its the libertarian part that made this inevitable. Even the antiwar part of it was just an extension of being ostensibly anti government. Drugs, sex, and rock and roll is just an aesthetic preference because fundamentally the online movement is and always was pro capital to the core, which defacto makes it pro imperialism in the current state of things.

    When you don’t have a guiding philosophy besides following trends and you get your arguments for those beliefs from satirical pop culture, you can go down some very deep, very dark rabbit holes.
