Does anyone else get irrationally angry at the mention of DE&I? I know it’s the latest right wing attack angle and I’m doing exactly what they want when I get wound up by it, but man, I cannot help but be infuriated by it.
The whole reason why policies like DE&I get introduced is to combat anti-minority hiring/promoting practices where white males get preferential treatment. There’s something so perverse about taking something that is supposed to course correct a bias and flipping it into a narrative of “it’s giving minorities preferential treatment.” No, it’s not, it’s trying to reduce the preferential treatment you’ve always had.
It just seems to boil back down to the bigoted idea that the white male candidate is the most qualified candidate by default, to which I say eat my fucking ass. It’s frustrating because I already have a hard time valuing myself in my own head without every aspect of the world - whether it’s love, or work, or even friendships - also reminding me that it doesn’t value me.
They want us to do 300% of the work for 50% of the credit. You can literally have your doctorate in a subject with decades of field experience and still lose out to some white failson.
These people are reptiles, some of whom are the very gatekeepers of capital (ie Recruiters + Hiring managers) who will toss out resumes with foreign sounding names and somehow convince themselves DEI is some Martian concept that’s not needed because everything is just in the world.
Yeah, typically when I hear a cracker mention “DEI initiatives” in that tone of voice (you know the one) it just makes me want to break their nose because it’s obvious what they want to say at this point, and clearly they think I’m stupid if they’re couching it in current-day white-regressive language expecting me to not understand what they’re saying.
I do know the tone of voice and I feel the exact same way. They’re just too cowardly to say it outright, so they need to invent dog whistle after dog whistle. But we know exactly what they’re saying, they’re not as smart as they like to believe they are.
