Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealth’s (UNH.N), opens new tab insurance unit, was fatally shot on Wednesday morning outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel in what appeared to be a targeted attack by a gunman lying in wait, New York City police officials said.
UnitedHealthcare is the largest U.S. health insurer, providing benefits to tens of millions of Americans, who pay more for healthcare than in any other country.
“Based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear that the victim was specifically targeted, but at this point, we do not know why,” Kenny said.
You know, I think I can probably figure out why someone would shoot the UHC CEO.
Could just be that we got lucky.
Their claim refusal rate is also like double the national standard
There’s some dipshit in other threads that’s convinced the only reason this happened is because the guy was rich. No other motivating factors. The Stockholm syndrome in this country is fucking bonkers.
Yeah, but I’m just super happy that the general random person response has been between the Oh Well, Anyway meme at worst, and glee at best.
I guess there is one thing the left and right in the US can agree on: shooting healthcare CEOs.
I am sure them being the highest denier of claims has nothing to do with why someone would gun down the CEO https://www.valuepenguin.com/health-insurance-claim-denials-and-appeals
Good riddance
Finally a bit of justice and accountability for CEOs.
I kinda hope this inspires people.
I challenge the government to give society a better path toward accountability for these financial terrorists. At least give people some options instead casting them out in the cold with nothing to lose.
I hope this catches on like school shootings did, I always found it odd that people who wanted to go killing would target schools rather than the wealthy
“I hope this catches on like school shootings did” New flair just dropped
Because schools are easy targets that are often the constant targets of the people school shooters respect
This wasn’t the CEO but the CEO of the insurance division. The overall CEO is Andrew Witty.
Thompson was once in charge of Medicare & Retirement, which means he would’ve had some real authority in the situation of denial of claims with Medicare Advantage plans.
Good Guy Gunman.
Hero I’d say.
only about 150 million suspects with cause
I always talk about how laws and morality aren’t the same. The goto example is cities making it illegal to feed people. Houston put someone on trial for this a while back (he was acquitted because juries sometimes dont suck).
But I think I have a new example. Remember that time the health insurance ghoul was gunned down. Can you BELIEVE that obviously good act was illegal?!
This is great news. I support the shooter.
I don’t even care if it was a corporate hit. I don’t give a shit about the motives.
I’m just happy these fuckers will now be looking over their back constantly. Maybe second guess fucking us over next time they get a chance
Thoughts and Prayers
I really thought that at least some of the responses would be along the lines of “he may be evil but we really shouldn’t support this kind of behavior”
Glad to see I was wrong.
Finally some good news!
Good. Kill more.
Could you edit in a link to the article, looks like it didn’t post correctly
