minus-squareLlamatron@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·3 days agoSo how close are we to getting low end large capacity SSDs at affordable prices? I mean, are we ever gonna be able to buy 12TB SSDs for our desktops or home NAS for similar prices to mechanical drives??
minus-squareAlphane Moon@lemmy.worldOPMlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·3 days agoSSD $/TB costs will keep going down, but I can’t see them rivaling HDDs in the next 5-10 years.
minus-squarecmnybolinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·3 days agoThe cost per TB of mechanical drives keeps going down too. I doubt high capacity SSDs will ever be cheaper than HDDs.

minus-squareValmond@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·3 days agoI feel they are crazy cheap already, you can find ssds for 50€ the TB. Aren’t they not meant for storage too, so HD will always be the preferred solution there (electrons needs to be reactivated in ssds IIRC)?
