      It’s also bad for gameplay, because the mechanics added on the dlc have to be confined to that dlc so they don’t interact with each other, much less build on each other, so you end with a seemingly complex but shallow game.

        Got Stellaris recently and it was awful for this reason. Everything felt totally bare and like there was some other mechanic somewhere that made everything work. Also got back to EUIV after playing it a lot at release and hated a lot of the systems and wouldnt you know it everything worked great after I got the DLC pass thing.

      It’s annoying how many Paradox (and other) games are stuck behind the effective DRM that is Steam workshop. No mods without paying insane prices. You can still mish-mash pirated DLC and a bought base game, but it’s a real pain.
