Title, how much longer will I have to wait until I can buy a body for an AI GF?

To me, they would just have to be a bit better than our current ‘best’ ai, capable of remembering past conversations forever, and able to draw upon past interactions it had between each other to continually evolve its personality.

The Body can either be a full on robot-with little to no human characteristics to avoid the uncanny valley or near perfect human-like to pass the uncanny valley.

Probably 10 years for minimum viable product, 20+ years for something that isn’t terrifying.

It’d be a much wiser investment to spend 2 years getting outside and in shape, expanding your interests, then finding a real one.

Watch Groundhog Day with self-improvement in mind. Life changing.

I’m not ugly nor overweight, I most likely could get an regular gf if I wanted, it’s just that I don’t really want to put myself through the process of dealing with the modern dating world… Like, I really don’t want to deal with possibly going through over a hundred relationships & dealing with the possibility of cheating, or attempts to ruin my reputation & life after a breakup. Plus I’ve literally been living like a hermit for the last 5~ years and ever since Covid shut down college I’ve literally had 0 human contact besides infrequent meetings with family, so I’m probably quite socially stunted…

I also just like the idea of being part of the first generation of humans to be in a relationship with a robot/ai, I feel like the future is going to be pretty heavily ai dominated, especially once agi and ‘sentient’ ai happens- I feel like being in a relationship with one might let me skate by as “one of the good humans” if/when they decide to exterminate humanity for our collective sins.

Would it have faults? If you had the “perfect” companion would you accept that or would it need to have faults because real people do? What I mean is, if you have the ideal in every way companion, really smart, great chef, beautiful, whatever, then subconsciously how do you compare? You’re going to quickly realize you aren’t good enough and then you have a problem.

These are the things I think about when a question like this comes up. The personality side of things. I love my fiancé but part of that is she drives me crazy sometimes. I see her as an equal as we both have faults and so on.

I don’t know but I’d definitely expect there to be faults, since unless we suddenly make a breakthrough that makes super-intelligent sentient ai, no ai is ever going to perfectly reproduce human responses & emotions to every situation.

However, I understand what you mean, I definitely would want an ai gf, to offer resistance and not blindly agree with me on everything. I’d want to treat them as an equal and have them be capable of engaging in debates on topics in which they hold a different opinion on them than me. I’m hoping that if they dont offer any resistance whatsoever that they could over time be taught to be more critical of my actions and to be more independently minded in conversations.

We need to be able to selfhost the AI first, especially pre-trained ones. Sharing corporate resources with other people dooming your privacy make them less powerfull due to resource sharing…

There are open source ai’s already available for self hosting but atm they’re much less powerful than things like GPT-4, but yeah I agree, and I hope open source ai catches up to or surpasses private ai eventually, however with the insane amount of funding going into private ventures right now I’m guessing they’ll be ahead for the foreseeable future.

Well, you definitely can get ‘personalized’ ai that’s open source atm, its just that it wont be very convincingly human and they usually cant disagree with you on topics. ExLLama is probably the best you can get right now that’s not censored.

Don’t take my numbers too seriously but I expect such an ai without body in 2025-2030 and with proper physical body in 2030-2040

How long until it is possible to get an AI GF? Depending on how real-feeling you want it to be, 10 years or so I’d suspect. But, if you want something that feels warm-blooded, that’s gonna need heating. And if it moves, to curl around you like for sleeping or something, that’s gonna be a cost, unless you wanna hear metal clanking.

It’ll be very expensive (>$3000) for the good ones, and this isn’t even mentioning the fact that should one exist, the reckoning that has put ChatGPT into limbo will come for this as well. People already complain about sex dolls, how they allow men to “act out and normalize perverted fantasies” and “make them more likely to rape women”, and that will explode should a true woman-replacable companion come out. Hell, that could easily result in them being banned entirely, but almost certainly even more expensive.

It’s not going to be the paradise you think it is, in all likelihood.

I don’t expect them to be perfect, I don’t need them to be warm feeling, Hell I don’t even need them to look perfectly human- if we don’t have the tech or the cost for a near perfect human face & body is too prohibitive, I’d be willing to go full on robot clunker if I had to, as long as the ai was advanced enough to pass for human. I’d even be willing to deal with a slight delay in responsiveness for a streamed-to-body ai if I had to.

In my opinion I’d just want something a bit more advanced than our current ‘best’ ai chat bots- something that can hold permanent long term memories & remember them and evolve their personality based on the interactions they have with me over time.

As for the public opinion on the topic, I couldn’t care less, but imo having a robo gf that’s capable of doing anything a regular one is except have kids or feel&look perfectly human would decrease any incel’s appetite for committing a life ruining crime like sexual assault on real women.
