A lot of folks don’t realize the Appalachian mountain range runs through 13 states. Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
I grew up in northeast Mississippi. There are some hills there, but there isn’t anything anywhere that approaches being mountainous or even mountainous-adjacent. Mountainous-adjacent has always been Alabama’s job. The highest point in Mississippi is something like 803 feet, but even that it’s only a few hundred feet taller than the surrounding area.
I’d bet this is West Virginia, possibly eastern Kentucky.
