      There’s just one, so:

      this die

      Some people are apparently scared to even say or write the singular form “die”, so singular “dice” is what they choose. My spouse does this and it makes me crazy only because it is teaching my kids to use the wrong word.

        Larry: I’ll buy a dice.

        Dewmi: “Die,” Larry.

        Larry: Pardon me. I didn’t know you were that competitive. Maybe I should come back later when you calm down.

        Dewmi: Larry! Darling. It’s one DIE, two DICE. Dice is the plural of die.

        Larry: Oh, well, I knew that. Never mind.
