The fun thing about this meme is that the film showed SGI’s fsn file manager running on IRIX.

IRIX is a discontinued operating system developed by Silicon Graphics (SGI) to run on the company’s proprietary MIPS workstations and servers. It is based on UNIX System V with BSD extensions.

Close enough I’d say. After all, she didn’t say “this is UNIX”, she said “this is a UNIX system”.

Which would have been pretty in keeping with Hammonds spared no expense but actually cheaper than f out especially book Hammond. We’ll just use productions computers rather than paying the UNIX license

I don’t think you can tell a Linux from a Unix. Though in general unixes are tidier, there are Linux users with Unix style and habits that will break the style

I’m not sure what you’re asking which of. I might have not worded the last part of my comment unambiguously

            To rewrite:

I don’t think you can tell Linux from a Unix by looking at it reliably. Though in general unixes are tidier, there are Linux users that are just as tidy and keep their system just like a Unix one

This is the equivalent of a woodworker building jigs and other tools with their thousands-of-dollars of equipment.

Source: me. I do this. 😬

Yeah, the feeling of “just needing that one perfect tool before I can do this” seems terribly common and I feel like it’s being enabled quite a bit in our society. If I just had the right editor/keyboard/notepad/fountain pen/jig etc, then I’ll be able to work on this other thing…

Oh god. That is so me. Always with the “if only” mentality. If only ________ then I could do ________.

And of course, it never gets done. 😅

I don’t think you want to run on all of those devices. I think you probably only want to run on your machine and your other machine

You don’t need this many editors x) Neovim for all your terminal needs, emacs evil mode when you need some actual UI in there like a notebook or R markdown !

Besides that, Java is never the right tool. It’s always close enough but never quite right ; just like you can technically replace every single tool with a knife… But you shouldn’t. (Except a knife does have a proper use, Java does not)

Why does it start with Men? Did you mean to put “man” there, or do you think only dudes collect tools?
