I always just assume any adaptation will be less than average, then if it’s better it’s a bonus for something I’ve enjoyed reading (listening to in this case for me) and just accept it as is. If worse well I didn’t expect much.

These days I mostly hope they don’t change characters too drastically if not then it’s noticably better (most times). Or at least not give off certain bits to other characters or pass them uplooks at Dune, Paul needed to cry

I’m so excited. Apple has a pretty good track record of producing quality shows and movies.

I like that they have the rights for all of the Cosmere and didn’t just auction off Mistborn or Stormlight in pieces. Having a universe of shows/movies (like when Marvel was in its prime) might be what they’re hoping for with this sort of decision.

Its a lot easier when you fucking hate them both lmao

I was a huge fan for a long time. Took his “secret project” series to open my eyes. Guy launched a whole campaign around the idea that he would help improve the working conditions and pay of voice actors and authors alike. He raised $43 million dollars for 4 books and some merch with the promise that none of these books would be on Amazon until things changed at audible and kindle.

Can you guess what happened? He got his check and not even a month later he’s slinging all the books and audiobooks on Amazon. Of course. Mr.Mormon gotta tithe, after all. He can write all the gay and transgender superheroes he wants, so long as his money supports conversion therapy and polygamy.

Hmmm I dont actually know anything about the guy himself so this is all news to me, I generally consume books knowing nothing about the author behind them at all.

Thanks for the info though, I’m gonna look into this more, at least I have never paid him any money for the books!

I bit the bullet and got one month of Apple+ to binge Severence and watch Tetris. Only money I’ve ever given the company but those were worth it. I’ll probably do the same for Cosmere and watch Pluribus too.

I feel like Apple is the place for it. I can’t wait. I wonder if they will eventually bring it all together.

I’ve heard of him from his contributions to Wheel of Time but I don’t think I’ve read any of his other stuff. He sounds quite prolific given this “universe” seems to encompas multiple series of books.

As an author he’s well known for his magic systems he creates. I haven’t read all of his different worlds but that’s what I’ve learned his thing is. Not sure about the rest of his world building but apparently the systems he creates are well received by most

You’re not wrong. In fact, most of his ideas on how to get magic are really, really dangerous for kids.

One gives you magic from swallowing pennies. One might give you magic if you got really sad and tried to jump in front of a train to save a puppy. One of them explicitly gives you magic for catching diseases.

Its honestly a terrible idea to try to adapt any of this to a wide audience.

I enjoy his books quite a bit. Like the other poster mentioned he develops great systems of magic. Stormlight Archives is his centerpiece for the cosmere universe which is now 1/2 complete at 5 books published.

Emperor’s soul is a short story that really does of his unique take on magic systems.

I’ve only really read his Mistborn novels but I loved them. I’ve been meaning to read more of his stuff, so this is exciting news.

Are any of the Cosmere series finished and ready for an adaptation? Or are we looking at a Game of Thrones situation here?

Mistborn era 1 and 2 are ready to go. Stormlight Archive is close to wrapping up its first big story arc with its 5th book coming soon. Elantris, Warbreaker, Arcanum Unbound, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, Tress and the Emerald Sea, and Isles of the Emberdark would make a good miniseries each. He has plenty of material to adapt and they all range from good to outstanding.

Brandon Sanderson had an assembly line of readers and editors to help him keep pushing out content at a ridiculous pace. I would not compare him to GRRM.

Also he treats writing as a job. I respect the hell out of his output and his willingness to explain how he does it (outline then 3 drafts, with a daily schedule that includes a few hours of writing on weekdays)
