For the first time, important Koala habitat corridors throughout Greater Sydney have been mapped… [It is] a cost-effective opportunity that allows Sydney’s critical Koala populations and other threatened species to persist amidst growing threats from development. https://www.tec.org.au/greater_sydney_koala_green_belts_corridors_of_survival
This is really positive news and needs to be done for all Australian cities. Wildlife corridors help animals survive through the ability to move, not caught in bush ‘islands’ where they are endangered by threats like fire and lack of food with nowhere to go.
This is amazing, and it explains why I’ve never seen one. I’m surprised they can be found near bankstown. I figured there weren’t any within 50 km of the CBD
What’s also great is that knowing what areas are restoration opportunities and/or vulnerable, it gives neighbouring residents a chance to get together and form corridor care groups, protecting what they have and planting more trees and other vegetation to feed and shelter our beautiful wildlife.
You’re thoughtful and consistent posting on az is very appreciated.
Seconded. It really is.
I’ve felt much less pressure to maintain some sort of posting life in this community these last couple months knowing u/arbilp3 has posted.
Doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be posting as well, but that pressure I’s putting on myself wasn’t the best way to do things. So I am so thankful, probably don’t say it enough.
And you know what? Once you take the pressure off you’ll probably find more environment posts anyway 🙂

Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. The natural environment is very important to me.
What do “restoration opportunity” and “vulnerable link” mean here? I would guess that “restoration opportunity” might mean that the habitat is not currently suitable, but could potentially be restored to health. And to me “vulnerable link” implies that the area is still currently a suitable habitat, but is at risk of deteriorating if no effort is made. But the red of ‘vulnerable link’ makes it seem like a lower condition than ‘restoration opportunity’ - so I figure I might be misunderstanding what this is about.
Great points you make. The terms are not clear so it would be best if you contact the Total Environment Centre and ask them directly and perhaps suggest they do some more explanation: https://www.tec.org.au/contact
