Utilitarian brainworms or one of the many very real instances of a homicidal parent going after their disabled child? I can’t decide, but it’s a depressing read.

May end up on SRD, but you read it here first.

"If we see a child with no legs, we conclude they will never run(with the obvious objections out of the way). We should then be able to similarly imagine a mind that will never have the courage to kill themselves, or only after they have needlessly suffered for decades. "

The obvious objections are so legion that there’s an entire Paralympics category for people competing in track and field with double leg amputations. Refusing to allow the obvious objections for depression is ableist garbage.

I love the implication in this paragrph that the disability is not the depression but the lack of “courage to kill themselves”. I think they could probably live with that.

Real boomer energy to look at a depressed person and lament that they don’t have the wherewithal to take care of themselves (meant both in the normal sense and in the mafia sense)

Ok I thought this was about euthanasia but I clicked through and he’s basically just advocating for family annihilation??? There’s no way THIS could go wrong, huh??

Somewhere in OP’s other posts and comments I saw that he’s a Vonnegut fan and so that totally tracks.

(I suspect a lot of rats think they’re Harrison Bergeron or Billy the Poet, and forget that Vonnegut was lampooning wealth, inequality, social darwinism, and capitalism, and also that those aren’t characters to emulate.)

" Q2: Suicide is not the answer to depression and equivalent ailments!

A2: You should at least be able to accept that sometimes it is the best answer in our imperfect world. Your character in this scenario has come to believe this is one of those times. "

I feel like there might be some other issues with your parenting if this is the case. Chronic depression rarely comes from nowhere.
