I honestly really liked season 1. It had its own charm and delivered on my expectations. Sad the fans just bullied the director.

People turned on it when MAPPA got busted again for horrible working conditions I think. I also kinda think it ended before the signature Chainsaw Man batshit crazy moments happened, so people didn’t get that yet.

Nah, a lot of Japanese otaku hated it from the get go. They don’t give a shit about working conditions, and even if that was the reason they wouldn’t attack the director for it.

The line I’ve heard is that some domestic japanese fans didn’t like that it was done in a more “more serious” style or something. Obviously I disagree, S1 ends with Denji and Aki bonding over kicking a dude in the balls.

i thought it wasn’t a very good adaptation. i didn’t like most of the fights (not because they used 3dcg but because they had so much less energy than the manga) and i thought the pacing was off. i liked the anime original scenes of the characters going about their daily lives a lot, but outside those the whole thing felt really slow and unsteady compared to the manga, which just moves

i can see reze working as a pretty good standalone movie.

but dang, i hope they aren’t working everyone too hard (they are)

The team at MAPPA that did CSM went from JJK S1 to the JJK:0 movie (that they made in 4 months!!!, which is insane when you watch the movie and see it’s relative quality) to CSM to JJK S2 with no breaks.

Announcing this movie now obviously means they’re gonna do this after JJK S2 ends, and then they’re probably gonna do JJK S3 or CSM S2. Unless they form a new team just for CSM.

Like, I want my anime adaptations but not when it actively hurts people deeper-sadness

since reze arc is going to be a movie i wonder how MAPPA is going to adapt the last 3 arcs, they could make one long season with the last 3.

hopefully the negative outcry MAPPA got during the start of the year and during the airing of JJK will force them to not overwork their animator as much as they did for the JJK0 movie

The Reze arc ends on chapter 52, and part 1 ends on chapter 97. So 45 chapters in 12 episodes would be slightly more than season 1, which adapted 39 chapters in 12 episodes. They could speed up the pacing or do 13-14 episodes. Either way, I think a second season after the movie will definitely wrap up part 1.

I’m really glad they’re making the Reze arc a movie, it’s the most standalone arc out and is structured pretty well for movie format. There’s a lot of buildup with Makima and Denji at the cinema, Aki and Angel and Denji and Beam’s interactions, the dates with Reze, and Reze’s reveal should come around the end of the second act. There’s not really any action at all until the fight with Reze, and then it’s a massive fight, so it’s a good set up and immediate pay off.

Also if they didn’t do it this way, a second season would either have to be longer or cut off right after the international assassins arc which would make the final arc seen very seperate
