As the abstraction of the act of streaming from its individual particularities, NPC streaming presents the distillation of the streaming profession, resulting in maximal efficiency in revenue generation. A quantitative increase in this kind of stream will eventually result in a qualitative transformation of the industry where it will be sublated by an entirely novel mode of production, namely the streamer-capitalist who relies entirely on the viewer for both the production and the consumption of their product, and who will eventually become a node in a never-ending tree of subcontractors.

I watched a bit to save you. It looks like it’s streamers that are repeating short lines and movements over and over again for revenue. Think like in any games where you can spam click an NPC that has 3 static lines they say and cycle through each time you click. This shit’s weird lol.

And after reading @DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml’s analysis, it makes sense that this is a phenomena. I don’t agree with it, of course, but it makes sense in the same way that ASMR is actually just further sexualization of women.

You missed the most important part, that viewers send emotes (which costs real money, anywhere from a dollar to hundreds depending on the “tier”) which the streamer does a reaction to. Effectively charging viewers to see them do a pose/say a phrase on the dollar.

I admit I didn’t get that far into the video. Just a cursory wtf is this viewing. But that tracks. I can definitely see parallels drawn from this stuff which is allowed on sites like Twitch(for some reason. Spoiler: that reason is money) and live stream porn sites. It’s clearly chauvinistic.

I didn’t watch the video either, can’t stand that guy. I just tried watching one of them for myself. Interestingly I had more trouble finding actual streams or footage of them than I expected, 99% of search results are just dipshits reacting to it and trying to monetize their reactions or “explanations” of the trend than the actual content itself.

      1. You are an npc streamer
      2. I as a viewer pay a dollar so that a burger sticker pops up on your stream
      3. You say "umm burger yum yum’
      4. Repeat for several hours

On the shitposting community of Lemmygrad we now have a perfectly written Marxist analysis of NPC streaming and that’s beautiful

Does anyone actually understand the appeal of these streams? Is it just kids that watch it? or is it an NPC fetish like moist says?

I don’t think it is an “NPC fetish” but rather a fetish for ordering a woman around. They pay her money to act like this not because the NPC behaviour is what they like, but because they like the idea of her being mindless, like a robot, and just obeying their commands.

While I agree that probably the most famous ones are women there seems to be men too who are doing that, so I don’t know if you can blame everything on that.
