I’ve run into a problem from here though. Every Godamn company has their software of choice or whatever, EVEN THOUGH the softwares are functionally identical, have the same components, and work the same way overall. Is this not neoliberalism incarnate lol
So you HAVE to say that you’re familiar with this obscure software to get your foot in the door but then you have to talk about it in an interview like your previous org has used it in the past (even though they haven’t).
Does anyone have any life hacks for this particular situation

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 this is why I love this community thank you so fucking much
This is great advice.
For commercial software, I’ve pirated plenty, or downloaded books/blog posts and just searched them during video interviews. Or had someone listening to the call and searching it for me in another room, while I’m VNC’d in to their computer.
For SaaS bullshit and very obscure stuff, you can always use your current org or setup a real looking one to get trial versions or whatever. I’ve done that to get access to some data processing tools or database engines that didn’t happen have open source/“community” editions.
Having someone sitting in on your call feeding you notes is genius! Gonna see if I can start copiloting my friends’ interviews because everyone unemployed right now but me & I don’t make enough to paypig indefinitely :p
Can you find tutorials for it on YouTube?

Also once you start working say “my previous job had a different workflow” and ask a friendly coworker to “walk you through the new one”. You might also have to spend a little bit of personal time working it out, but it’s a minor price to pay to strengthen your lie.
Congrats! Hope you ace the interview!
