If Europe wants to deter possible Russian aggression, it has to do a much better job of moving tanks, troops and ammunition across the continent, a top French general told POLITICO.

During the Cold War, countries were used to moving military gear around, a task that was “very simple” back then but “has gradually become extremely complex,” said General Bertrand Toujouse, in charge of the French army’s newly created land command for Europe.

“It’s absolutely essential to put military mobility back into European minds, and for this we need to practice,” he added, speaking from his office in Lille.

I was waiting for the whole article to explain why they are showing vehicles being transported over water at the top, thinking, “does he want to make it faster by going down the Danube or something?”

And then I get to the end-

He wants policymakers to focus on rail transport first. “Railroads are still by far the most practical” way to move tanks around, he explained. “This is where we need to concentrate.”

    Never change, Politico. Never change.

You can see the discussion in the pinned posts in the news, world, and politics communities. Some people find the presence of its comments annoying, some take issue with the site itself. The guy who runs it has no credentials in journalism, and seems to have a Zionist slant.

Politico being center-left is weirdly oversimplified (as with every other left-right decision they make). Poltico is neo-liberal, maybe in the US that is center left but to the rest of the world that’s a weird characterisation.

It uses the American overton window marking everything that’s considered unbiased elsewhere as some form of Left. Anyone who doesn’t know any better and trusts these ratings would form a media worldview consistent with the American rightward skew.

Idk, ever since it showed up I’ve been wondering why people downvote it so hard. My current hypothesis is that most people think it’s superfluous and just want it to be at the bottom of the comments.
