Wait, who’s blaming immigrants for the price of food? I know they’ve been blamed for housing shortages, but food prices? Never heard of that one.

From vancouver area: some of housing shortage could be immediatley fixed if foreign investors were forced to rent out their places…so many empty homes

        foreign investors

Yeah, for sure. But the poster in the OP seems to suggest that people are mad at ordinary immigrants for food prices. I’ve literally never heard of that.

I agree it’s illogical but I wouldn’t be surprised if people thought it. Right-wing arguments appeal to people in large part because of their simplicity, saving people from having to reckon with complex issues. And what if the only checking in to their political system people do is from a biased platform like twitter, because they don’t want to take time to read an article and think critically, etc. I say this after having a talk with a family member recently that was disheartening because of some of their views and from my feeling like trying to discuss things with them was pretty fruitless given what their news diet is

If they would send all immigrants home, many farms wouldn’t have people working the fields anymore. They’d have to hire local people who in general would demand a much higher wage for that kind of work and thus prices would go up sharply. That’s what always happens when some politicians try this, and the decision is rolled back quickly.

It never fails to amaze me how a certain segment of the US always gripes about foreigners stealing the jobs.

As if any weird Karen that complaints would ever be caught dead picking crops in a field. There isn’t a single one of those whiners that would ever take the job (much less be able to do it) if offered regardless of the wage.

In many cases it’s just a part of the population needing an answer that is easy, quick and usually wrong as a scapegoat and right wing politicians being very happy to give it to them, preferably wrapped up in emotionally charged messages.

Facts are irrelevant in all this. Keep 'm angry to stop any critical thinking.

I don’t mind more expensive food if it means not exploiting human misery and destroying workers rights.

Supermarkets don’t. They like cheap stuff and hiding the exploration. Some governments even block laws that would protect workers from the heat.

I understand that, which is why I buy direct from the producer as much as I can.

Eggs, dairy, vegetables, etc. I all purchase directly from the farm.

Considering that Brexit got through and that’s exactly what’s happening in the UK (amongst countless other problems), don’t bet against them trying something stupid like this (regardless of when or who’s in power).

Florida is doing something similar and getting the same results. Who could’ve known, right? They’re now also making a law blocking outside workers from protection against the heat. Just to be mean and increase the worker shortage I guess.

Anyone got the source for this? I wouldn’t mind printing some and putting them up around town.

I could make that myself worse case, just trying to save a few minutes.

Don’t forget that grocery prices form a large part of most inflation calculation, so the 11.5% actively raises the 7% statistic.

Yes, while I know how much western CEO get payed, they are still workers, guard dogs.

But naming CEOs without naming shareholders as the actual ruling class really just further serves maintaining the status quo.

Fun fact, corporations have to have a list of all the shareholders and how much they shares they own. The problem is getting that information from the corporation.

TIL not everywhere companies are required to report shareholders (unless they are quoted on stock exchanges, in which case it’s the central authority there who has the register).

I agree the message on the poster is correct.

However, when they grab my attention using my inability to afford food, I was expect the next line to be something to address it that helps me.

It being their political opinion, achieves a surprisingly big letdown for a view I agree with after only one line of text.
