If history is any indication, now that USB has finally cleaned up its labeling tomorrow they will announce a completely new cable system that makes all of these cables unusable.
But I thought the EU fixed this for everyone. Why would we be allowed to move from USB-C if alternatives are considered to have bad side-car effects? (Alternatives being seen as wasteful, contributing to e-waste from cables and chargers, and the dreaded issue of one platform preferring a connector over another.)
I know you were just joking, but it’s not a joke based on reality. Unless the EU thing and everyone hating on changing connectors was just overblown bullshit.

That all said. I’m very excited about our USB-C future. One cable to rule them all!
It’s stupid that it took this long to get some sort of indicator required.
But it’s probally because “USB 4 Gen 7 Pro Max Ultra” doesn’t fit on the housing of a USB connector.
I wonder how this is even going to work. I’ve seen some very svelte USB-C cables, and those logos shown seem like they are not designed to be itty bitty.
Amazon: the knockoffs we’ll sell for the price of the originals will still have random performance.

Nobody knew if “USB 3.2 Gen 1x2” or “USB 3.2 Gen 2x1” was better or even a different thing for that matter!
I wish displayport and hdmi did the same
HDMI was somewhat straightforward until 2.1 or so.
Uhh how can you tell? Whats a 1.4 cable look like vs a 2.0 cable?
I thought you meant overall version complexity. Yes, you can’t tell the difference between 1.4 and 2.0. But this was easier to manage than the different USB versions.
