Did anyone ever have trust in big tech? They’ve always been soulless right wing corporations.
Exactly. I see no evidence in the article that this is a trend - that seems to be a naive interpretation by an incompetent reporter. They’ve just confirmed something that has always been true.
Also:
While teens may or may not track these tech news headlines as closely as their adult counterparts, this overall shift in sentiment is affecting them, too.
Uh no, it’s the adults who are out of touch here. The old media news headlines don’t represent reality very well.
If you ever trusted a corporation, you need to have your head examined
Woah, you can trust big corps!
But only to fuck you over.
Oh no, who could’ve figured that? /s
Have their usage rates reflected their lack of trust? Unless it has, I doubt companies care.
I’ve noticed at least among my peers that the Meta policy change relating to Queer people and Immigrants was the final nail in the coffin.
I, personally, know of hundreds of family/friends that left because of it…Many went to Bluesky.
Sensible people.
Lost trust, or never had trust to begin with.
I have personally lost trust as companies used to at least ACT like they gave a rats ass. They have clearly shown they don’t give a flying Frick and do whatever they want, whenever they want and are extremely open about it now.
Teens and younger I feel have never seen companies that give the impression they care. I’m talking like 2015+ birthed children.
Hell, I’m a Carter baby and lost faith in tech by working at a startup in 1999 that had no idea what it was doing and backtracked to just being a commodity product with zero name recognition – before that bubble burst. I quit after the all-hands where I asked what our distinct product now was and was told “that’s not for you to worry about.” It fucking is when most of my compensation is options.
Good.
The kids are all right.
