"Liberal: How can you go to bed at night after promoting violence? I get that they’re Nazis but it’s still violence.

Nonviolence is a social agreement. If you don’t promote violence against others, neither will I promote violence against you.

Since that premise doesn’t hold for Nazis, the conclusion doesn’t restrain me either.

I roll my eyes real hard when moderates oversimplify to just “violence”. As if genocide and defense against genocide are morally equivalent in the slightest.

It’s a coward’s way to sound principled while pretending state violence isn’t violence.

I’m confused. I think of myself as a progressive liberal, and I think that people who threaten a tolerant society should be destroyed. This includes Nazis. Kill on sight. What about this isn’t liberalism? Am I a dumbass?

They mean “I made a meme about protecting liberties with violence from the safety of my home, but would never actually act on the claimed beliefs which make me feel self superior to others.”

I don’t know where you are but in America a “liberal progressive” is understood by most of the population to be someone pretty far left. In far left places on the Internet (socialist groups, Marxist groups, anarchist groups) a “liberal” is a person that supports capitalism. So lefties hate liberals.

Also using the r-word is NOT cool.

Bad actors and idiots who think things aren’t bad or can’t get worse. That’s who’s saying these things. Some people weren’t personally effected by Trump and have no empathy for anyone who was, but watch Daily Show to feel good about themselves.

What boggles my mind is, I can’t find any articles talking about it. I had to read the actual document submitted to Congress.

It’s complicity in the media is what it is.

This is the big problem with centrist media fact checkers: paltering doesn’t count towards the tallying of deceptions.

They don’t want to be seen as sympathetic in any way to scary terrorist antifa. The mainstream media is compromised.

These fuckers in the new regime are trying to go after NPR for fuck’s sake, which if anything sanewashed Trump extensively. Just reporting the words he said is not biased.

fucking morons. antifa is a concept, not a “org” like the proud pussy boys

the bad thing is they can label anyone they want as “antifa” then detain them without any actual charges.

      “that’s illegal!!!”

      yea. and?

habeas corpus, due process, “innocent until proven guilty” – bid farewell to all that, and anything else that was protecting you from them and not the other way around

Pretty sure “innocent until proven guilty” has been out the window for decades. How many people are currently locked up before their trial? I can name at least one.

I don’t want to speak against my hero but people have been locked up pretrial for the entire history of the country. I’m not defending the practice really, it’s just innocent until proven guilty refers to the trial part.

Burner phone bought with cash set to auto upload to somewhere untraceable. After you are far away and safe.

If can’t afford that and feel you need to document, disable all location tracking on your phone and put it in airplane mode. Do not take it out of airplane mode unless there is an extreme emergency. Not even wifi allowed. Disable all biometric unlock. Make a long PIN and memorize it, don’t write it down. Keep the phone locked or set it up to lock with one click in case it is taken from you.

Just in total agreement here about everything else but we need proof.

        Just want to say

        Get these apps:

[Wasted] - https://f-droid.org/packages/me.lucky.wasted/ - This app allows you to set a timer for which if you don’t unlock your phone for X amount of time, it will auto wipe. There are also a lot of other ways to trigger a wipe. Fake messenger apps like a fake Signal that, once tapped, initiates a wipe. A fake “Airple Mode” tile that, once tapped, initiates a wipe. Also a way to set a secret code that, if the app detects the code from notifications, initiates a wipe. (Example: You set a codeword like “AllCatsAreBeautiful2025” then send this from another channel like SMS, or some other messenger app, and then if “AllCatsAreBeautiful2025” shows up in the notification, the app will initiate a wipe.

Also this app: [Duress] https://f-droid.org/packages/me.lucky.duress/ - This one, I’m not sure if works anymore. It doesn’t work on my samsung, but it did work on a Motorola that I had. But basically, you set either a fake password that if detected by the app, initiates a wipe. The fake password could also be [Your Password Length + X characters more], where X is at least 2 or more. Example. Your password is 2025, then you can set it to wipe if the app detects you entering any 6 digit code, or longer. If you just spam any code like 556789, the app will wipe.

Beware, these might not be foulproof. If the authorities knows about this beforehand, they can probably make your phone crash/close the apps. If your phone gets too hot, it will close some apps, so they could put your phone on top of a heater and it will close some apps, potentially the ones I mentioned above.

If you feel you need to document, just bring a camera. Doesn’t matter if it’s a DC-G9, or a point-and-shoot from Walmart, it’s a simple matter to strip meta info from images. If the federal government really wanted to track who was at a protest, they could probably figure out who bought a “burner” phone, even if you used cash. Those cheap phones still upload a vast amount of tracking data, and even if you turn off location tracking, it’s still on and working because Google doesn’t allow you to turn off location for their services. So even with it turned off, you can still be caught with a geofence warrant.

It does, when you realise they’re confident enough in their privilege to believe (often rightfully) that a world war won’t impact them personally.

Too bad, I can’t find any in my area. It’s at least +50 against the fascist (in favor of the neoliberal), if a nazi shows up in my area, they are getting beaten.

    Nazis aren’t people.

“B-b-but you’re not better, you’re dehumanizing them and they are people with thoughts and feefees!”

Fuck them - if you’re a literal Nazi, you’re no better than a rabid dog and should be killed.

The point of not dehumanising them isn’t to spare their feelings, nor to avoid “sinking to their level”, it’s because dehumanising them removes their responsability and accountability for their own actions, as well as ignores the systemic nature of the issues we’re facing, making it entirely counterproductive.

They very much ARE people, people who are choosing to harm other people for their own gain because we live under systems, invented designed implemented and enforced by people that actively and deliberately encourage them to do so, for the ultimate benefit of said hand full of people.

Rabid dogs have no choice, they are not responsible for their actions, they have no way out of their condition, and ultimately when they die, unless they bit another animal, the problem will not persist, none of which can be said for nazis.

Nazism is a self chosen path. They’re choosing to ignore basic human instinct for cooperation to feel better about their own inadequacies. They’re dehumanizing themselves.

Copypasting this comment I copied from lemmy a couple months ago. Sorry OP I can’t remeber who you are.

“One of the core tenants of neoliberal education is that violence is always wrong, it’s never the answer, etc. They repeat it so often and in so many places because it’s at obvious odds with the state. They use violence against us so often and on such wide scales that their only option is to convince that it’s not violence.

Over producing with limited resources is violence. Throwing away food while people starve is violence. Leaving buildings empty while people die of the cold on the street is violence. Preventing the sick and dying from accessing healthcare is violence. Evicting people from their homes is violence. Depriving the chronically ill and physically disabled of the means of survival because they can’t generate capital for capitalists is violence. Climate change is violence.

The truth is that they deeply fear what we would do if we actually recognized all those things as violence. They do literally everything in their power to prevent us from achieving class consciousness. They have infected literally every single facet of society in an effort to keep us from seeing each other as human.”

Edit: Nevermind I found the original comment. All credit goes to @LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone
