This has been happening for months, but I think it has gotten worse lately. Loading my default feed (Subscribed with Scaled sort) initially takes anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds every time. Is this normal/expected?

Loading more items works normally, as does everything else, it’s just the initial loading that takes frustratingly long. Refreshing the feed right away works quickly too, but after couple of hours the first load is slow again.

I’ve tried both the default web app and Voyager, and both have the same issue. It’s not a critical problem by any means, but it is frustrating, especially since it seems to have gotten worse recently.

For me the performance on tbis lemmy instance has never been great. Sometimes it just doesnt load the site at all for like 10-20 seconds.

For me the site’s performance has generally been fine, it’s just the first load of the home feed that takes a long time every time.

just want to report the same issue (but only for the last… week or so). Loading the page the first time takes ages or ends up with a gateway timeout (resty). When it is loaded the first time, it’s usually fast.

I too had multiple 504 Gateway Timeouts earlier today and the status page showed intermittent downtime for Lemmy. Seems to be stable now. I’m thinking maybe that was a different problem and not related (directly at least) to the issue I’ve been experiencing for months now.

I’ve been thinking a bit. Not so many people are reporting the same issue so maybe it’s related to the number of subscribed communities I have or something else like that? I have quite a few subscriptions actually. The problem seems to only occur when logged in, so that would support that theory. But it’s difficult to pinpoint the issue as I need to wait at least a couple of hours for it to be slow again.

If there’s any additional information that I can provide that might help in debugging this, I’m happy to help.

        Europe

My thinking is that if it were some kind of connection problem, things would be slow all the time. Everything works just fine after the initial wait of 10-30 seconds.
