I was blown away by it. Just install steam and maybe proton-ge and good to go. I recently installed CachyOS and that way I even skipped the driver install chore I usually had to do. Anno 117 just works out of the box. It has gotten so good and easy!

It’s really the most annoying thing. Spotlight was so trustworthy and now I can’t find shit. Half of the time it can’t even find applications I know I have installed. I guess time to switch to Linux, but Asahi is not really finished yet, and I just hate how the trackpad feels on Linux installations.

Ladybugs rescued my plants this summer! I actually ordered 20 of them to get rid of aphids (and the ants which came with them). They took a week, then everything alive was eaten. They actually took up a fight with the ants. There were some casualties, but apparently the ladybugs won.

Felt a bit silly to order bugs in the mail, but collecting them took ages and one looks ridiculous hunting for ladybugs in the park.

A main board for a NAS I was planning to build “at some point” because I saw it was pretty cheap. This “cheap” main board now cost me a lot of money in things like hard drives, PSU, case, … So many regrets. :D

I never got why people keep prewashing things they put into their dishwasher. I just remove leftover food which could get stuck in the filter and put it in. No prewashing required, things come out clean 99% of the time. Done this with very old and very new machines. Not sure why this is not working for everyone.

just want to report the same issue (but only for the last… week or so). Loading the page the first time takes ages or ends up with a gateway timeout (resty). When it is loaded the first time, it’s usually fast.

Solltest du jemals was einfaches dazu schreiben oder zusammenfassen, immer her damit. Es ist bei mir in der Familie zb. absolut nicht nahe zu bringen wie mind-boggling reich Elon Musk im Vergleich zu allen anderen zb. ist. Das sind schon Zahlen, die man gar nicht mehr mal erklären kann oder beschreiben.

Komplexere Themen, wieso Steuern auf große Konzerne gut wären, werden dann immer abgehandelt mit “ja aber wenn ich einen Betrieb habe mit 100 Personen, dann muss ich ja schon überleben können!”. Das der gigantische Konzern, hinter dem ein unfassbar reicher Mensch steht, nicht das selbe ist wie der kleine 100 Personen Betrieb… kommt nicht an.

Vielleicht kannst du mir bei einem Problem helfen. Ich such immer nach deutschsprachigen Quellen wie die Verteilung von Vermögen in Österreich aussieht und wieso das nicht gut ist. Die werte Verwandtschaft kann kein Englisch.

But from my experience, “money makes the world go round”, meaning: If there is a legitimate business case it is more likely that such a website or instance will stay online, whereas a lonesome enthusiast will likely loose interest after a while. And then its all gone (at least for that instance)?

Thanks one of the biggest strengths of the Fediverse. One instance dies for one reason or another, but the whole thing is impossible to kill, because it is not hosted by one single point of failure (like reddit).

I had the same concerns, but then I realized I just… can make another account if that happens, on a different instance. I tried to pick one which is hosted by someone who has a track record of keeping stuff online for a long time, but if Milan ever decides to shut it down, it will be a very sad day but in the end… it’s not a very big deal. There will be others, and the Fediverse will still be alive.

Same goes for your concerns about visibility and banning. There are all kind of instances out there. Pick one which fits your needs. For some people this is a very restricted space, some want to see ALL.

Centralization is of course easy because everything is done and decided at the same place, but in the end, every centralized service is doomed to fail at some point. Have fun here. :) Keep an open mind for the concept of the Fediverse and you will be fine.

Voll, ich glaube ein paar Feature mehr diesbezüglich würden Lemmy gar nicht schaden.

Dieses Mindset der Dezentralität muss man neuen Nutzern halt einfach verständlich gleich beibringen.

Ich scheiter ehrlich gesagt schon daran den Leuten Mastodon näher zu bringen, weil sie sich einfach nicht entscheiden können welchem Server sie beitreten (obwohl das gar nicht so wichtig ist in Wahrheit. Die wenigsten Instanzen blockieren großflächig andere).

Da feddit.de dann aber offline gegangen ist, ist diese quasi hops gegangen.

Ich glaub da würd ich mir total ein Feature wünschen, welches im Falle einer Community, die auf einem offline gegangenen Server sitzt (oder lange inaktiv ist), sie automatisch “archiviert” (vielleicht nicht mehr direkt in der Suche zu finden, nur wenn man explizit nach archivierten Communities sucht) und direkt alternative Communities mit ähnlichen Namen vorschlägt. Aber glaubt das muss ich mal irgendwo als Feature Request reintreten :D Kann mir hier ja viel wünschen.

Welchen Ansatz wir auch immer im Endeffekt verfolgen, ich bin gespannt wie sich das hier generell weiterentwickeln wird. Ich hoffe auf Wachstum bis zu einem gewissen grad.
