- Flagged dead on HN, to nobody’s surprise. There’s a couple of fascists on there, but that’s about it. There’s more fascists on lemmy.ml, too.
- on a related note, why is there so much goddamn hype for omarchy? as far as i can tell it’s basically just an arch linux config, but every time i, against my better judgement, look at the comments of some tech thread, people are talking about how omarchy is the best thing since sliced bread. even framework have been posting about it a lot.
so my question is why??? is it literally just because it has dhh behind it? <rant> is it because i am being forced to look at the opinions whose only experience with writing code is vibecoding the latest greatest b2b saas slop in the new flashy javascript framework and then deploying it on some platform that is literally just an aws wrapper with a 1000% upcharge, whose idea of a perfect operating system is one with an llm pre-installed and a billion flashy animations happening anytime you move a window???</rant>- Right? We had compiz 15 years ago, and it didn’t come with swastikas on it.
- amused to see even /r/hyprland thinks omarchy is dumb shit
- There’s a lot of hype for Omarchy because its an open endorsement of fascism disguised as a Linux distro. Its success would further entrench fascists in Linux and the FOSS ecosystem. - is it because i am being forced to look at the opinions [of people] whose only experience with writing code is vibecoding the latest greatest b2b saas slop in the new flashy javascript framework and then deploying it on some platform that is literally just an aws wrapper with a 1000% upcharge, whose idea of a perfect operating system is one with an llm pre-installed and a billion flashy animations happening anytime you move a window??? - Absolutely. Fascists are not known for their technical prowess. - @BlueMonday1984 @themagzuz I had to look it up, and (beyond that fashhole DHH)
 > Omarchy […] ships with what a modern software developer would need to be productive immediately, including […] Spotify, […] and Zoom.
Yes, those are the productivity essentials for any programmer 🤪- spotify, which is a step away in the software catalogue of any distribution that includes flatpak. - @mawhrin Well, i didn’t bother to dig into that. But also, I’ve heard rumors about a “web page” of sorts … Unless that got scrapped 🙃

- spotify- Winamp was literally right there, do fascists now know anything beyond mindless consu- oh, wait, I answered my own question, of fucking course they are

- on a related note, why is there so much goddamn hype for omarchy? - This is the first time I’ve ever heard of it, and I try to stay informed about Linux and open source.

- What a wetwipe of an article. One is a fascist for opening grok on a video. Another is a fascist because he has some conservative takes. This is why I struggle to take the left seriously. Why don’t you go after the actual targets than developers who are conservative. The developer of Lemmy is a tankie yet I don’t bloody care. He makes good software. It’s not like they’re financing a political campaign. - He even makes the point himself - The easy way out of this uncomfortably large gathering of perfectly normal, peaceful Brits who’ve had enough is to tar them all as “far right”. That’s not just a British tactic, but one used across Europe, and previously in the US as well. It used to work very well, because the historical stigma was so strong, but, like hurling “nazi” and “fascist” at the most middle-of-the-road political figures and positions, it’s finally lost its power. - You can tell people they’re wrong without calling them fascists. - Stop with the culture war BS.
